As with any product, the better it is maintained the longer it will last. The answer to this question also varies with the quality of water in which it is installed. Results will vary from location to location depending on the quality of the water in certain areas and also the quantity of water that flows through the filter. However, on average we have seen some residential filters still operating at 30+ years.
Although we do recommend the water filter be installed below ground if possible just after the city water meter, some applications simply do not allow that to be done, or it is more advantageous for the filter to be installed above ground. However, if it installed above ground, it must be protected from freezing.
To answer this question the customer should consider how bad the water condition is in their area along with how much water is being filtered during the month. These two factors will play a large role in how often the filter should be cleaned. However, we recommend as a general rule that the filter be cleaned at least once a month. The better the filter is maintained, the longer it will last.
