Nor will you have to add any dangerous chemicals to the filter. It is cleaned by a simple process of back washing and forward washing water through the filter to remove contaminants.

As with any product, proper maintenance extends product lifespan. Results will vary from location to location depending on the quality of the water in certain areas and also the quantity of water that flows through the filter. While the Chief Filter normally averages at least 15 to 20 years, we have observed some exceeding 30+ years of service.

We recommend the water filter be installed underground, right after the city water meter. Some applications can be installed above ground such as in a garage or basement with adequate water line connections. Installers will inspect the areas that would be best suited for your location. However, if installed above ground, the filter MUST be protected from freezing.

We recommend the Chief Water Filter be backflushed at least once a month.  Water condition severity and local area specifics will determine how often you should clean your filter.  Also you need to consider the volume of water being filtered during the month. These two factors play a large role in how often the filter should be cleaned. However, we recommend as a general rule that the filter be cleaned at least once a month. Proper maintenance of the Chief Filter will prolong its lifespan. The better the filter is maintained, the longer it will last.
